Why Is My Hair Falling? Real Causes We See in Bangalore
Hair fall is the single most common concern walking into our KR Puram clinic every day. And the pattern is always the same: months of panic, three different "anti-hairfall" shampoos, a cupboard full of oils — and no diagnosis. Here's the truth: hair fall is a symptom, not a disease. Until you find the root cause, no shampoo will fix it.
First, Know What's Normal
Losing 50–100 strands a day is completely normal — that's the natural hair cycle. What's not normal: visible thinning at the crown or temples, a widening parting, clumps in the drain, or hair fall that suddenly doubled in the last 2–3 months. Those need investigation.
The Top Causes We See in Bangalore
- Iron and Vitamin D deficiency: Extremely common — especially among IT professionals who rarely see sunlight between home, cab and office. This is the #1 finding in our blood work.
- Thyroid imbalance: Both hypo- and hyperthyroidism cause diffuse hair shedding, often before other symptoms appear.
- PCOS in women: Hormonal hair thinning at the crown with increased facial hair is a classic pattern that needs hormonal evaluation, not hair products.
- Post-pregnancy shedding: Dramatic but usually self-limiting — though it needs support to recover fully.
- Chronic stress and poor sleep: Telogen effluvium — stress pushing hair prematurely into the shedding phase — is rampant in Bangalore's work culture.
- Hard water: Borewell water across KR Puram, Ramamurthy Nagar and East Bangalore weakens the hair shaft and worsens breakage (though it doesn't cause root-level loss).
What Actually Helps
Blood tests first — don't guess. A basic panel (CBC, ferritin, Vitamin D, B12, thyroid profile) answers more than a year of trial-and-error products. Once we know the cause:
- Correct the deficiency: Iron and Vitamin D correction alone reverses a huge share of cases within 3–4 months.
- Minoxidil: Genuinely works for pattern hair loss, but needs daily consistency — results show at month 3–4, not week 2.
- PRP therapy: Platelet-Rich Plasma treatment, which we offer in-clinic, has shown excellent results for androgenetic alopecia and stress-induced fall — most patients see visible improvement in 8–12 weeks. Read our full PRP guide here.
What to Stop Doing
Please don't oil and massage aggressively while actively losing hair — it worsens traction-related fall. Skip the tight buns and towel-rubbing too. And don't self-prescribe biotin megadoses; without a deficiency, they do little except interfere with lab tests.
We see patients from KR Puram, TC Palya, Ramamurthy Nagar, Whitefield and across East Bangalore for hair fall every week. Come in — we'll find the cause first, then build a plan specific to you.
